I've been to Camp Adventure every summer for 35 years in a row. This summer I'll be going for two weeks and Sheila is going with me. We love camp because it gives kids an opportunity to take steps toward Jesus. A week away from distractions, cell phones, and little brothers can help a kid carve out space for deep thinking and spiritual growth. Camp is fun; it is important; it matters.
Camp helps kids face reality. Camp helps kids know the Truth.
Isaiah said, "Truth has stumbled in the streets."
In a world of relativistic meandering many kids are unsure about Truth. They've been told they are nothing more than highly evolved amoeba. Floating in the wake of pervasive Darwinian theory - pawned off as fact - kids are drowning in an inevitable tidal wave of brutality and selfishness because they've learned "the strong prey on the weak." Who wants to be seen as weak in Darwin's world? Competition is fierce but many kids aren't sure why they are competing, or whether "winning" is simply another term for "survival." A student espousing even the possibility of Intelligent Design is prey for secularists.
I've told kids for years, "You engage in Bible study so you will know God. You must know Him in order to stand strong and live with transcendent purpose."
Kids need Truth. They need to know their lives have value and purpose. We are more than a random combination of evolved matter. We are made in the image of God. That is why the Bible is our constant companion at camp. We study the Bible, talk about scripture and help kids apply the Bible to life. Their hope - and our hope - is to know God and His Truth. So I'm going back to camp...

I'm so excited to finally get a chance to go to camp this summer. Look out...God is going to do huge things.
