My nephews have some awesome Uncles. No, not me. I mean their other Uncles.
One of those Uncles is Uncle Jan. He's great.
Every year Uncle Jan brings Josh, Joel and Isaac on a hunting trip. This year they were hunting in Ohio and Joel shot this monster buck. His brother Josh took this picture. His brother Isaac said all the nice things a good brother should say (when the youngest brother brings home such a trophy and tries to act all humble about it). Uncle Jan gave our nephews a great week of shared adventure. Like I said, Uncle Jan is awesome.
My nephews wonder if I've killed a deer yet.
Maybe you're wondering too.
Sheila has placed her order. "Get me venison," she said.
So, why haven't I tagged out?
It's because I saw a buck, like this one, where I'm hunting. I know he's out there, so I'm hunting for him. My friend Vic is letting me hunt on a portion of his farm and I'm making the most of the opportunity. My friend Ron lets me hunt his place too. I could have shot some younger bucks, but I took their pictures instead. I'm hunting a monster. I may kill a doe or two so we have venison this winter, but I've got target lock on a brute.
I'm having a great time building memories. I love hunting. I'm spending hours with family and friends. I'm in the woods watching the sun rise - and set.
I'm reconnecting with God in the glory of His wilderness.
I'm reading my Bible as I sit in my treestand and wait on the monster buck. And at this rate, I may be reading a lot of scripture before this season draws to an end.
Whether I get a buck like my nephew's, or not, it's turning into a wonderful fall at the Beeson household...and Sheila's request of me is not much different from Isaac's request of Esau...
Genesis 27:3-4 - Now take your hunting equipment, your quiver and bow, and go out into the open country and hunt some wild game for me. Prepare a good-tasting meal for me, just the way I like it.”
Great Blog entry...that is all I have to say.

I never grew up hunting but love being outdoors, no doubt it reminds me of God's Greatness and love. THis past weekend I was given a Card that reminded me of that as well and it's something happening all over the world.

WOW! The buck was huge, but the place where it was hanging was great. All wood and I could almost smell the timber. My Dad was from the U.P. and we would go every summer. My Grandparents place had a wood stove which had to be stoked every day which ment chopping wood. What a great smell. My Dad and I would go fishing almost every day getting up before sun rise and getting on a clear, calm lake at day break with virgin woods all around and only my Dad and I on the lake. I was not a Christian at that time but as I look back I remember Jesus was speaking to my soul through nature.
Romans 1:19-20 "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse;"

To think that Joel killed that thing with only his bare hands?
Man vs beast ...
Impressive.
