Hundreds of volunteers showed up at Elkhart's Concord Mall this morning to help unload 15 Feed the Children Semi-trucks. Thousands of our neighbors - out of work and out of jobs - lined up to receive the food. CNN was there. NBC was there. Al Jazeera English was there. WNDU captured footage for their nightly news. So did many others.
Why?
Because helping hurting people matters. Feeding hungry people is important. If people had been required to purchase the food we gave away this morning, it would have cost $2.1 million dollars. It was a fantastic gift to the hungry in our community.
I had the privilege of introducing Joel and Victoria Osteen at the news conference. I like Joel. He believes God cares, God is with us and God wants hungry people to have food. I believe that too.
In case you missed today's opportunity to serve the poor and needy in our community, you'll want to be at GCC this Saturday for our "2nd Saturday" ministry. Show up by 8:30 and volunteer until Noon. We're helping our community...together! Pick a location and join the effort:
- Go to the Granger Campus at 630 East University Drive.
- Go to the Elkhart site at the Encore Cinemas on 2701 Cassopolis Street.
- Go to the Plymouth site at the Plymouth Hospital Meeting Room.
There is work to do and I'm honored to serve Jesus beside you.
Psalm 72:12-14 - He will rescue the needy person who cries for help and the oppressed person who has no one's help. He will have pity on the poor and needy and will save the lives of the needy. He will rescue them from oppression and violence. Their blood will be precious in his sight.
This is so cool! I love seeing people helping people.

And I just saw it on the national news - my heart breaks for the hurting and hungry, and I'm thrilled to be part of GCC where we're absolutely in the right place at the right time to make a difference. My God is amazing!
