I had a great time with Penn's FCA this morning, and before the actual meeting I spoke briefly with Maddie Helman. Since I'm so old I can't remember whether the current slang term for "awesome" is "boss" or "groovy" or "keen-o," I was listening carefully to everything Maddie said.
Maddie told me she had a test today.
"Really? What class?"
"Chemistry," she answered.
"Oh, you'll do great," I assured her. (Hey, she's really smart and she studies. I've got confidence.)
"Our teacher says, 'You test your best if you dress your best.'"
"What?"
"Yeah. That's what she says. 'You test your best if you dress your best.' Not only that, we get extra credit if we dress our best."
I thought that was a great idea, so I said, "So did you dress your best today?" (I had my own suspicions, but figured I'd ask to make sure.)
Maddie looked at me like like a nice old lady looks at a pitiful puppy. Saying what should have been obvious she responded, "I brought a change of clothes." How great is that? You test your best if you dress your best, so she was going to dress her best just for the test! Brilliant.
I didn't learn any current slang words today, so if I reference another as a "ding-bat" when the more precise terminology is "hip cat," it's OK. Maybe I'll be able to go back and update my slang at a later date.

Love that girl. She did some phenominal work at GSM this weekend. You can check out some of her work on Jeffrey's blog.
