The Latin word "adventus" is the translation of the Greek word "parousia," most commonly used in reference to the 2nd coming of Christ.
Advent starts each year on the 4th Sunday before December 25th.
Christians believe the season of Advent has a dual purpose. It serves as a reminder of the original waiting that was done by the Hebrew people as they longed for Messiah. It also reminds us of the waiting Christians endure today as they anticipate the 2nd coming of Christ.
During Advent Christians often prepare for the 2nd coming by commemorating the 1st coming of Christ at Christmas. Advent helps us direct our thoughts to remember the first coming of Jesus as Saviour, and his second coming as Judge.
I hope you'll prepare yourself for the coming of Christ and devote two Wednesday nights to The Journey bible study. Sign up here. Jeff Bell, Kathy Guy and Bob Laurent are the instructors during this two-class-plunge into scripture.
Sign up for one class. Attend that class twice.
Take a couple of steps to prepare yourself.
Jesus is coming.
Revelation 22:20-21 - He who gives his testimony to all this says, "Yes indeed! I am coming soon!" So be it. Come, Lord Jesus! May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with everyone.
