No one can pretend that the Church is unaffected by the spirit of the age, that is, by the anticipation of Christmas. The result of this is that Christmas carols can crowd out the keeping of Advent. It's quite possible the Church hardly has time for the 'earnest looking forward' -- for silence and for watching and waiting for the coming of the King in his kingdom now.
Our 1st Wednesday launch into Advent dramatized the contrast between silence and the frenetic hustle and bustle overwhelming us each December. The juxtaposition of those contrasting elements brought stunning clarity to our condition.
I resolved to carve out time for quiet reflection on the coming of Christ.
I encourage you to do the same.
Psalm 119:114 - You're my place of quiet retreat; I wait for your Word to renew me.
I resolve to carve out time for quiet reflection on the coming of Christ.
I do too.
