During Advent I read a book titled, "Dinner With a Perfect Stranger."
More than 100 men read the book and met with me on Wednesday mornings to eat breakfast and talk about what we'd read.
It was a good way to prepare for Christmas.
David Gregory, the book's author, says Jesus invites us to life with Him. In the book, Jesus tells the main character, “You’re bored, Nick. You were made for more than this. You’re worried about God stealing your fun, but you’ve got it backwards.… There’s no adventure like being joined to the Creator of the universe.”
When you read the Bible and discover what life is like without God (when you spend your time trying to get your own way all the time) you realize why so many are so excited about Christ.
He is the One who invites us back to the God.
He is the One who offers the adventure of a real and abundant life.
Galatians 5:19-21 - It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions.
