How do you explain the message of Christmas to a child?
Is the imagery of nativity scenes sufficient to explain the Christmas message?
I think not.
Yes, God came to a manger – the feeding trough of animals.
Yes, God emptied Himself of His glory.
But, more lay in that manger than a peasant baby. This child was the same man crucified on Golgotha. This child was the Savior of the world, crucified, dead and buried, who rose again.
The cross is in the manger. So is our hope of redemption and resurrection.
Can you see it?
Children see - and believe.
But recognition requires humility. Appreciation requires reverence. It requires faith.
During advent we can wearily murmur, “What reasons are there for faith?” Or we can become like children, and believe. Mary did. So did the wise men of the East, and the shepherds. So can each of us, wherever we are.
We are God's children. We're crying out, "Abba! Father! Come Lord. Come quickly!"
Galatians 4:6-7 - You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, "Papa! Father!" Doesn't that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you're also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.
Mark: I love this countdown you are doing. The messages and pictures are great. Merry Christmas to you sir!
