Rob Wegner received an incredible honor this morning when he was presented the annual “Drum Major Award” for community service. Sheila and I were there applauding.
Mayor Jeff Rea presented the award. It's for those individuals who are actively serving our community and who distinguish themselves by the use of their time and resources. King’s “Drum Major” speech was the inspiration for the tribute.
The award is quite prestigious.
The St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce, the City of South Bend, the City of Mishawaka, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation provide the annual Community Service Recognition Breakfast to commemorate the life and work of Dr. King. More than 600 were in attendance; it was a cornucopia of "Who's Who in Michiana." It was wonderful.
Rob’s acceptance speech was gracious.
I couldn’t be more proud of him. He has my respect.
