You know how easy it is to believe everyone at church has it all together? It's difficult to imagine they've struggled, or suffered, or wavered in their faith. Sometimes it's hard to believe good people can lose focus or drift off-mission, but Jeff Calhoun did just that.
Yesterday he told us how he drifted away from God, experienced loss, and redirected his life. Unhappy with low living, he turned around and followed Jesus. His life was saved.
As he spoke I thought, "Amazing. God is still in the redemption business."
Jeff's story fired me up. It's a rescue story. It's inspiring and it's true. When Jeff realized the path he was on was leading him away from the God he loved, he turned around and ran back to his Father. You can too.
Think about it.
Are your feet pointing toward the best life? Which way are you headed today?
Luke 15:13-20
"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.' So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."
Awesome story...we're even teaching our 3 to 5 year olds the same thing. The scripture reference you used in your post is the same one that's being used for our little ones the next two weeks. The bottom line for the month of February is "Jesus wants me to know what God is like."
