For a season of time that's precious and brief, adults have great influence over the next generations. That time matters more than most realize. It's ripe, and rich, and filled with opportunities.
What is required to sway our children?
Not much.
Think of your own childhood. Some moments are seared into your memory.
- You know you'll always remember when you and your dad....
- You know you'll never forget the time you went with your parents to... .
- You can still hear your mom's voice every time you... .
- When will you ever forget the day your grandma took you... ?
You don't have this proprietary role of influence for very long. Before you know it other voices will be speaking into your child and shaping their sense of destiny. It's just a matter of time before others tell your children what they're worth, how they should feel, what they should do and how they should live.
So, as a grandpa speaking to any who will listen, I'm asking you recognize your privileged position of influence and heed my words.
The children you hold, in your arms and your heart, will be forever marked by the things you say to them, the places you take them, and the sights you show them. So, give them today what they need most. Show them your love. Show them how to live. And show them how to walk with Jesus.
Much of their future rests in your hands.
You can add value to your children and grandchildren here and here.
Exodus 18:20a - Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live.
I love this picture of Sheila and Ruby.
