Here are a few things Alan said this morning in the opening session of the AND Conference, including this quote from Einstein: "If you can't imagine it, you can't do it."
- We must not be captive to our success. We must look at the next edge.
- I see amazing things happening in America. Without sounding "triumphalistic," I do feel optimistic.
- If I wanted to dig a hole over there, it does me no good to keep digging deeper the hole I'm digging right here.
- Learning takes place...when you ask the right questions. Be willing to ask the questions, or let the prophetic people in your midst ask them. All programming must be subject to questioning. "Can we do this better?"
- Ministry in all cultural settings is "EXTRACTIONAL," and it pulls people out of their culture. Within 3 to 5 years of coming to faith in Christ, people are pulled "extracted" out of their relational context.
- Is a can opener a can opener if it can't open cans anymore? (It's a "can't opener.) So, on that notion, is a church a church if it doesn't do what churches are meant to do?
- What are churches meant to do?
- You don't have to ditch what you're doing in order to do what you can do.
- It's a strategic problem.
1 Kings 18:29 - They used every religious trick and strategy they knew to make something happen...
