I was reading the Bible when a wave of awe swept over me. I was transfixed by the Supremacy of Almighty God. Our Sovereign Creator is The Most High God, worthy of worship, honor and praise.
The Holy One's mandate is clear; as God loves us, we are to love one another.
How we act toward those we are commanded to honor matters. God notices when we mock people and the Bible uses shockingly graphic language to paint a picture of the consequences of wicked disregard.
The Book of Psalms begins with the words, "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers..." Even the Book of Proverbs, read so often as a practical guide to life, addresses the issue, stating we'll face consequences for the way we treat our neighbors, friends and family. God won't tolerate mocking, and HE uses some pretty vivid imagery to make HIS point.
Proverbs 30:17 (NCV)
If you make fun of your father
and refuse to obey your mother,
the birds of the valley will peck out your eyes,
and the vultures will eat them.
