My friend John White spoke to the High School GSM'ers tonight. It was great. He seemed to enjoy this particular illustration a lot. It had something to do with resting on your elbows and toes, stiff as a plank, for what seemed to me to be only a few minutes short of eternity. It was quite amusing to the rest of the students and in the end, proved very worthwhile to the victims, er, I mean, participants chosen from the crowd.
When all was said and done, they each received the same generous reward, no matter how long they had worked to successfully hold the "plank" pose.
High School students enjoy such things. If old people were allowed to engage these feats of strength, it would be entirely unfair. It's nothing for people such as myself to perform this particular trick because when I'm on my toes and elbows, my stomach is resting firmly on the ground, so I can easily hold that position forever. That must be why I was excluded from the contest.
I love GSM. It reminds me God is generous to us all.
Matthew 20:10b-15 - Each of the workers received a denarion. When they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, "These who were hired last worked one hour, and they received the same pay as we did even though we had to work the whole day in the hot sun." But he replied to one of them, "Friend, I did you no wrong. Didn’t I agree to pay you a denarion? Take what belongs to you and go. I want to give to this one who was hired last the same as I give to you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you resentful because I’m generous?"
