After hiking a few miles in the mountains near Two Medicine, Sheila and I caught a ride on this little passenger boat. We enjoyed a nice cruise across the lake, well worth the price of the tickets.
It wasn’t surprising that we had to pay.
I understand that we
live in a high entitlement nation, but taxes haven’t yet risen high enough to pay
for free boat rides on every little mountain lake in America .
We weren’t entitled to a free ride and we knew it.
Someone pays to clean, maintain, fuel and store the boat.
Someone pays the captain to pilot the boat, entertain the
passengers and bring her safely to the dock.
There are costs involved and who better to pay for the boat than those using it?
Even if you think folks who don’t pay are entitled to a free ride, you can be sure of one thing; somebody is paying for every person who cruises across the lake.
And the more people there are jumping on-board and getting free rides, the more taxing it will be on all the others who are paying for them to ride free.
There is an inevitable reality here. Either entitlements must go down or taxes must go way, way up.
2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 - Don’t you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” And now we’re getting reports that a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings are taking advantage of you. This must not be tolerated. We command them to get to work immediately—no excuses, no arguments—and earn their own keep. Friends, don’t slack off in doing your duty.
