When I was a kid, my dad told me to get some friends together to help us work on the barn. I did what my father asked and by the end of the first day I realized: When you're knee-deep in manure you learn a lot about people.
Here's what I learned:
- All candidates look good when they're standing in the school cafeteria saying, "Pick me! Pick me!"
- Some people are happier talking about working than working.
- The most impressive candidate may not be the most impressive worker.
- Some jobs stink, but they still need to be done... preferably by someone else.
- Few teams have a shortage of supervisors.
- When shoveling manure, someone needs to grab a shovel and start shoveling.
- Just because people ask for the job and say they'll do the work, doesn't mean they will do the job or the work.
Luke 17:10 - When you’ve done everything expected of you, be matter-of-fact and say, "The work is done. What we were told to do, we did.”
